Appearances

I've just moved to Edmonton, Alberta and plan to travel quite a bit in 2010 - notably to British Columbia in April, Ottawa-Montreal in May, and the Yukon from October to December.

Please use the calendar on my News page to find out my stops and feel free to contact me if you would like to arrange an interview, a talk or other type of author event. I am most comfortable in English but can also do Q&A sessions en Français (y entiendo bastante bien el Español  - e anche l'Italiano).

I enjoy interacting with audiences of all ages and backgrounds and would be happy to give a talk or interview on the following topics:
  • My first book, For the Love of Flying, as well as my two new projects: a history of aviation in Canada's north and a novel about a female bush flyer turned Air Transport Auxiliary pilot
  • Teaching inclusive Canadian histories in an engaging way
  • How writers can achieve their writing and publishing goals

Speaking and Teaching Experience

I have given more than a dozen talks to aviation organizations and other groups at different venues in North America. These include talks to several chapters of the Canadian Aviation Historical Society, the Ottawa Airport Watch, the Houston Aviation Alliance, the Quarter Century in Aviation Club, and several public libraries and book festivals.

I have also:
  • Presented my For the Love of Flying research at the Canadian Aviation Historical Society's Annual Convention in June 2008
  • Presented several papers at Canadian conferences
  • Led Canadian history seminars at the University of British Columbia for two years
  • Facilitated interactive worskhops at the Centre for Teaching and Academic Growth (UBC) for one year
  • MC-ed at student film festivals and other special events
  • Performed my poetry at slams and jams in various locations
