Sweet Moments at SS Atlantic Remembrance Ceremony

This past week I was so lucky to get to attend the SS Atlantic remembrance ceremony at St. Paul’s in Terence Bay, Nova Scotia, followed by a reception at the SS Atlantic Interpretation Centre just next door.

It turned into an unofficial min-book launch as I delivered thank you copies of Children of the SS Atlantic to the wonderful folks who helped me with my research and fact checking, as well as to the local folks who special ordered it through me.

One of the sweetest and best moments of the night was when Michael Duggan, descendant of one of the brave rescuers the night of the shipwreck (and featured in a photo in the book from when he was a child), mentioned he’d bought the book at Indigo and already read it cover to cover – and truly enjoyed it! That made my heart sing.

It was also so special to finally meet Deanna M. Ryan-Meister (who provided the photos below!), the President of the Titanic Society of Atlantic Canada, see Nancy Hartling our local municipal councillor, and connect with Nora and Shirley of the SS Atlantic Heritage Society.

Thanks to everyone for their amazing efforts to keep these stories alive for future generations!
