So pleased to see Zacharias Kunuk honoured for his work with an Artistic Achievement Award by the Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts!
I remember calling him in 2014 to collaborate on his essay for the collection I got to edit, In This Together: 15 Stories of Truth and Reconciliation. He was so patient with me and I’m grateful he shared his story! I also recall how his friend who answered the phone cracked up when I mispronounced ‘Zacharias’. Whoops! Rookie mistake keeping me humble even as I tried so hard to be calm and confident back then 😅
